5/5/20

Today you will get an introduction to Hinduism. You will notice the video is only 21 minutes long. I would guess it will take you 25-30 minutes depending on how often you need to pause. You will have the full 50 minutes to complete this as you have no work for Mr. Smith today.

Hinduism Basics Video Lecture

Hinduism Basics ppt

**Clarification note about Hinduism** I have had a few questions about the idea that Hinduism is monotheistic. You will see in the lecture above that this is because the Hindu deities are all manifestations/avatars of the highest deity, the Brahman. While there is some diversity within Hinduism on this, this is the most widely held belief. While monotheistic is a simplified term (in truth its status is more complex that can be defined by mono/polytheism) this is the closest definition. The universe is still recognized as being created/connected to/beholden to one omniscient being, the Brahman. If you would like to discuss this further, learn more about the deities, or share your own Hindu perspective on this belief, be sure to come to the Zoom meeting tomorrow!

If you finish early, you may either look at tomorrow's lecture or work on finalizing your research paper, whichever works best for you today.

There will be a Zoom meeting at TBD tomorrow During this meeting I will give some more depth on Hindu culture using quotes from Skyline students and parents. We will also look at some of the Hindu Deities. This is not required content but is always fun content for students and really helps to gain a little deeper understanding of Hinduism. There will be time for questions afterwards about the content or the paper.
